Revisiting the Decameron: artist in residence online Fremantle Arts Centre

I'm the inaugural artist in residence online at the Fremantle Arts Centre working on a new project 'Revisiting the Decameron' as part of my wider investigation 'Winter Light: beauty and horror in pandemic times'. Over ten weeks, I'll create ten oil on canvas works that reconfigure place as told in each of the novel's ten days of story telling.

The Decameron, written by Boccaccio during the Black Death reign in Italy tells of seven young people who escape plague-riddled Florence to escape in lockdown to an abandoned villa in the hills near Florence. These places are then recaptured through painting and produced in my regional studio during the 5th Victorian [Australia] COVID-19 lockdown.
